The Darkest Harmony

Unrequited Rosalie/Edward. PG-13.

Superior In Every Way But One

Golden eyes traced over the display in the window, seeing perfectly into the darkened store. 'New color contact lenses, only $59.99!', they proclaimed, giving Rosalie a million reasons why she should buy them. She put her hand up to the window, slowing curling it into a fist before she turned around and walked away.

She wouldn't be forced to buy contact lenses because Bella had an eye color that was considered normal. No, she could make her golden eyes beautiful, even without make-up. She was beautiful, dammit, and Edward needed to realize it. He needed to love her like every other guy did. He needed to love her the way she loved him.

She's graceful, definitely more graceful than that clumsy little human, Bella. When Rosalie walks, she walks with elegance and strength, her head held up high. She has better balance than Bella, and can manage to walk on thin limbs of a tree without so much as swaying over to one side.

Edward doesn't notice. He's too busy trying to impress Bella with his strength, though they all know that he can just look at her and she's willing to give her body to him to do with whatever he pleased. When he does look up, they lock eyes for a split second before Rosalie swiftly leaves, gracefully reappearing on the back porch of the Cullen house, staring at the two of them with resentful eyes.

Her beauty captivates everyone, men, women, anyone who looks at her. Her eyes are a different color when she's not with her family or husband, the color her eyes were before she became a vampire. It was a secret, not even Emmett knew about it. She liked it that way, having something that nobody else knew about.

She loves the way people's eyes stare at her in wonder, as if she were a beautiful mirage or illusion. It makes her feel loved, wonderful.

But nothing can take away the pain she feels when she realizes that the way Edward looks at Bella isn't the way he looks at her, or ever has. Edward stares at Bella the way people stare at her when they see her for the first time, while he barely acknowledges her beauty.

She's far smarter than Bella, and talks with more culture and class than Bella could ever hope to. When in a situation, Rosalie can quickly evaluate the options and pick the one that most benefits herself, preferably without hurting Emmett or her family.

She can make things happen quicker than Bella can, and her lies are more crafted and creative than Bella's. Her grades are higher. Her body is better than Bella's. She can take care of herself, she can take care of others, and she has more emotions than Bella does.

But one thing she can't do better than Bella is make Edward fall in love with her. Edward can read her like an open book, pouring into her mind to learn everything about her thoughts about him or anything, really.

Bella bested Rosalie in one battle, but the war was not over. Oh, the war was far from over, and Rosalie would come out victorious.

Bella didn't know who she was up against.
